- Ute football fans are invited to participate in the JCPenney/University of Utah SouthTowne Tailgate Party prior to each of the Utes' five home football games. Fans will receive reserved bleacher tickets, a Lewis Brothers Stage motor coach ride to and from the game, parking at SouthTowne, a Johanna's Kitchen breakfast (dinner for night games), and a game program.

Packages are available at JCPenney Information Center in SouthTowne or at the Huntsman Center ticket office. For information call 572-9229 or 581-UTIX.- A new season begins for the BYU cross country team Saturday as the Cougars host the BYU Autumn Classic at East Bay beginning at 10 a.m.The Cougars should field a very competitive team in 1992 with several key runners returning from last season's team which placed second in the Western Athletic Conference.

Jason Pyrah, an All-American last season as a sophomore, heads the list of returning runners along with senior Dave Spence and sophomore Rick Jaster.

- After taking on top-ranked UCLA, 10th-ranked Florida, and second-ranked Stanford within a five-day period, the 13th-ranked BYU women's volleyball team will host No. 7 Texas, No. 23 Pepperdine, and Idaho State this weekend in the Mizuno Classic. Play begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. with Pepperdine and Idaho State squaring off, followed by BYU-Texas at 7:30.- Southern Utah linebacker Jared Hunsaker was named the Western Football Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday's game at Weber State. Hunsaker totaled 12 tackles - including five solo.
