LIGHTNING-IGNITED FIRE BURNS 30 ACRES SO FAR

Lightning ignited a fire in the Fort Canyon area Wednesday afternoon, burning 30 acres by this morning.

Unlike a blaze in the canyon that came dangerously close to homes earlier this summer, the latest fire is high up on the mountainside. The nearest structure is 1 1/4 miles from the fire, said Loyal Clark, a U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman. The slow-moving fire consumed dense oak brush, maple and mountain mahogany.
