DISTRAUGHT PENSIONER BURNS HIMSELF TO DEATH

A pensioner in Prague, Czechoslovakia, burned himself to death to protest the break-up of Czechoslovakia, the state news agency CSTK reported.

Jozef Aszmongyi, 61, born in the Slovak town of Presov but living for most of his life in a village near Nymburk, some 25 miles northeast of Prague in Czech lands, died Wednesday morning after he poured gasoline over himself and set himself afire, the agency said Thursday.CSTK, quoting Czech Interior Ministry spokesman Bohuslav Ventura, said Aszmongyi left a letter calling on "all people of good will" to do everything possible to preserve the state.
