A noted Harvard-affiliated psychiatrist accused by the family of a former patient with seducing him in treatment and contributing to his suicide gave up her medical license and said she would never practice again.

A state medical review board, which had rejected a similar offer only a day before, this time accepted the resignation by the psychiatrist, Dr. Margaret Bean-Bayog, within hours.The sensational case has been percolating for a year but it quickened pace Thursday when Bean-Bayog, eager to avoid a public hearing Monday she said would be a "media circus," submitted a lengthy letter of resignation that chastised the board and media.
