Beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all, Ralph John Richards, age 73, died September 18, 1992 in Salt Lake City.

Born June 7, 1919 in Malad, Idaho, a son of William Henry and Margaret Annie John Richards, Jr. Married Shaughnessy Salisbury, August 29, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; she died December 17, 1985. Married Marian L. Whitmore, June 11, 1988 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Active member of the LDS Church, serving as traveling secretary to President David O. McKay. Served as bishop of Murray 21st Ward, High Councilman, ward and stake clerk, and executive secretary in California and Salt Lake City. He served a mission to Tahiti and California 1938-41, was mission president in Tahiti 1969-72. Served as temple president, along with his wife as matron, of the Tahitian Temple 1988-1992. Received B.S. and M.S. from USU. Was an educator in Bishop, California and New Zealand, and translator for Church Translation Division 1972-88. Veteran of the U.S. Navy World War II.

Survived by his wife, Marian, Salt Lake City; four sons, two daughters, Michael R. Richards, Cody, Wyoming; Shauna Candace Gottwald, Taylorsville; Steven C. Richards, Atlanta, Georgia; Laura Lee O'Bryant, and Timothy K. Richards, Seattle, Wash.; Clinton R. Richards, Provo; 161/2 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ella Mae Moon, Virginia; Anna Maria Perkes, Wyoming. Preceded in death by a grandson, K. Micah Gottwald.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the Salt Lake 12th Ward, 630 East 100 South. Friends may call Monday, 5-8 p.m. at McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Rd., and Tuesday, 9-9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
