"No new taxes" has become a common cliche throughout America, and as election time rolls around, like always, education is a big topic.

Should we increase the amount of money allotted for each child in education? Should education be a top priority for those running for office? I say "yes."Being a student myself and having a mother who is a teacher, I have the rare opportunity to see many of the burdens of education. I realize we spend an enormous amount of the state budget on education already. However, we need to increase it.

The youth of today are tomorrow's leaders. We need to guarantee a solid future for the youth through education.

If the youth of today are well-educated, the leaders of tomorrow will be just that . . . leaders, not followers. Many people say we can't afford an increase in education, but I say how can we not?
