Bungee jumpers weren't the only things "up" this year at the Utah State Fair. Attendance was also up, making this year's fair the largest ever.
The fair, which ended Sunday, had 255,681 paid gate admissions for its 10-day run, said Susan Openshaw, fair market-ing/public relations director. That number doesn't include children under 6 who got in free or people who had passes. The biggest day was Saturday, Sept. 19, with more than 41,000. The old record for total paid gate attendance was set in 1990 with 239,088."The weather has a lot to do with it, because people like to come out when it's nice," Openshaw said. "It was absolutely perfect, the kind of weather we hope for every year." But Openshaw says it wasn't just the weather - the fair's staff deserves credit, too.
