Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin adjusts his tie during a Knesset debate Monday on a possible "land for peace" settlement between Israel and Syria. Rabin said he hoped to make peace with Syria sooner than he first thought, perhaps in less than six months. The leader made the statement in Jerusalem as his supporters turned aside an effort by right-wing lawmakers to hold a full-scale debate about Rabin's policies on ceding land. Israel and Syria were to resume negotiations Monday in Washington, D.C.
