The Thiokol Corp. has donated $11,000 to support Weber State University's efforts to enhance science education in public schools.
The company has earmarked $7,500 for scholarships that public school teachers may use to attend science workshops at Weber State next summer.Another $3,500 will defray expenses of the second annual NASA Teachers Workshop to be held Thursday, Sept. 24, at Weber State.
The one-day workshop will explain how to use space technology in elementary and high school science classes. More than 350 elementary and high school science teachers from Utah, Idaho and Wyoming are expected to attend. The workshop is being sponsored by NASA's Ames (Iowa) Research Center, Thiokol and Weber State.
Thiokol's donations were presented by Michael R. Ayers, director of finance, and Michael S. Liptrot, manager of employee relations. They are Weber State alumni.
