7-ELEVEN OUTLETS TO OPEN IN CHINA DURING OCTOBER

China, which already has McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets, will get its first 7-Eleven stores next month, officials said this week.

Five of the 24-hour convenience stores will open in the Shenzhen economic zone bordering Hong Kong on Oct. 16, and there are plans to add between 10 and 15 more outlets in the city within the year.Thomas Cheung, chief executive of Hong Kong Convenience Stores Ltd., which controls 7-Eleven operations in Hong Kong, said the Chinese venture will involve two other partners, Maxiball Investments Ltd. of Hong Kong and the Shenzhen Luohu Economic Development Corp.

He said the initial investment for the 15 stores will be about $3.8 million.

Officials said 7-Eleven might expand in China, depending on the success of the Shenzhen venture.
