Since the start of Orem's recycling program in June, residents have put 33 tons of garbage out on the curb.
That's 33 tons that didn't end up in the Lindon Landfill and saved the city $825 in tipping fees. Some 982 residents are participating in the curbside recycling program, according to Jim Jones, sales representative for Waste Management of Salt Lake. Orem has the highest participation of the eight cities that contract with Waste Management to offer curbside recycling.
The company sold the recycled materials for $377.39, all of which will be given to Orem City. The city plans to let the Beautification Commission use the money.
