JUDGE REPRIMANDS MURPHY IN ASSAULT ON HOME SUPERVISOR

Bernt Murphy, a retarded man released from the Utah State Hospital by court order two years ago, was reprimanded by a judge Monday for assaulting his group-home supervisor.

Murphy was jailed and charged with assault after being accused of hitting the supervisor with a stick. The assault charge was dropped Monday, but Murphy was sentenced to 15 days in jail for disobeying a judge's earlier order to curb his outbursts, said Bud Ellett, chief prosecutor for the Salt Lake County attorney's office.Murphy was given credit for the five days he spent in jail after being arrested on the charge, and 3rd District Judge Pat Brian suspended the other 10 days.
