So, exactly how desperate are you to appear on national television?
If you're desperate enough to make a total fool out of yourself, you may want to try out for ABC's "America's Funniest People."A crew from the program will be in Utah on Friday, Saturday and Sunday looking for "people who can make us laugh," according to executive producer Vin Di Bona.
Now, "Funniest People," which airs locally Sundays at 7:30 p.m. on KTVX-Ch. 4, isn't high art. It's a collection of foolish - often ridiculous - people doing foolish and ridiculous things for their 30 seconds of fame.
They're looking for people "who can do impressions, tell jokes, do tricks, play funny instruments or anything creative that is found to make the audience laugh."
The "Funniest People" camera crew will be at the Layton Hills Mall Friday from 2-8 p.m.; at the Crossroads Mall in Salt Lake City on Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and at the Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City on Sunday from noon-5 p.m.
And the producers have several tips for those aspiring to make it on the program:
Plan on between 30 seconds and 90 seconds for your performance.
Make sure it's funny - try it out on your friends first.
Don't do something you've already seen on the show. Do something original.
Think visually. Feel free to use props or costumes, but make sure they're appropriate to your material.
If you do impressions, have something funny to say as well.
If you do physical humor, make sure it's safe.
And "above all, be funny, unique and outrageous."
