Resistance to a man's advances led to a Wednesday-evening stabbing that left a 19-year-old woman seriously injured, according to police.
Loi Njuyen, 2975 S. 3200 West, was stabbed in the chest with a steak knife and then suffered four "defensive" stab wounds in her hands and feet as she fought with a man who entered her bedroom Wednesday about 11 p.m.The woman's mother and brother heard her screaming and rushed to the bedroom where they subdued the attacker and called the police, Edwards said.
Njuyen was taken to LDS hospital where she underwent surgery. She was listed in serious but stable condition Friday morning.
The family has had a house guest for the past month who emigrated from Vietnam earlier this year. The victim's family said he became infatuated with the victim while living at the house.
Tam Ta, 20, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted criminal homicide.
