WILSON SIGNS BILL THAT PROTECTS GAYS

California Gov. Pete Wilson signed legislation Friday to protect homosexuals from job dis-crimination, nearly one year after his veto of a similar bill sparked protests by gays and lesbians.

The Republican governor signed the bill by Assemblyman Terry Friedman, D-Los Angeles, who also authored the earlier measure.Supporters of Friedman's latest bill, including major segments of the gay community, said the measure puts into law recent court rulings and state regulations that outlaw discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
