OLYMPUS SLIPS PAST SKYLINE IN BACK-AND-FORTH BATTLE, 27-26

The Tom Larson magic is back, and because it is, Olympus is sitting on top of Region 2 and making believers of everyone - including themselves. Friday's 27-26 victory over Skyline is helping with the conversion.

Larson, who took a football program in ruins at Kearns and built it into a state champion in 1989, is trying to do the same time again this year at Oly. The Titans entered Friday's game with a 2-1 mark, but Skyline was viewed as an important test.Olympus scored quickly. On the game's second play, Mike Greene broke loose and ran 70 yards for a score, and Brent Neff's PAT made it 7-0. Greene would be a huge factor for the Titans, finishing with 177 yards rushing on 12 carries for the night. Skyline was held without a first down on its first possession, and Oly began moving again before punting away to the Eagles, the punt rolling out of bounds at the 1-yard line.

Skyline then drove 99 yards in eight plays, with QB Brandon Doman diving in from the 1-yard line. Matt Alba's PAT tied the score. Skyline then took control of the game, driving 92 yards in 12 plays just before half with Doman again scoring from the one. Nick Morgan, who had 133 yards rushing at halftime on 11 carries and finished with 152 for the night, had the key gains on the drive. Alba's PAT was just wide, and it was 13-7 at halftime.

The second half was wild. Skyline took a 19-7 lead when Chad Morgan scored on an 11 yard run. The momentum shifted quickly, however, when Olymus recovered an Eagle fumble and went 64 yards in three plays, 57 of them gained by Greene. Jeramy Green's 3 yard run made it 19-14. Oly took the lead after another Eagle turnover early in the fourth. Neff hit Matt Rich for a 19-yard TD to make it 20-19 after a two-point conversion failed.

Skyline's drive stalled, the Titans took over and began to run out the clock. But a fumble recovered by Jeff McMullin at the Eagle 43 gave Doman the chance to throw a 57-yard TD to a streaking Alba, and his PAT made it 26-20 with just 2:30 left. Oly then rallied back, Neff hitting three passes to set up Greene's 20-yard sweep right with 1:09 left. Neff calmly booted the PAT that gave Olympus the victory.
