Randy Travis will play a cowboy movie star in a one-hour television special for The Nashville Network.
"This definitely is stretch-ing out and trying to do something different," the country singer said last week."I think everybody wants to venture into other directions and just see what else they can do," he added.
Travis started filming in February near his vacation home in Hawaii. Production moved to New Mexico and Colorado in July, and Travis was wrapping up in South Dakota last week on a buffalo ranch.
He spent part of the time at Rapid City Regional Hospital with the flu, but he was back in action Wednesday.
The cast includes Lou Diamond Phillips, Burt Reynolds and veteran cowboy actor Dale Robertson. The show is tentatively scheduled for broadcast in January on the cable channel.
