DRAPERIES AMONG WARES HOME SHOW WILL SPOTLIGHT

If there's one thing that can add drama, color and style to a room, it is windows accented by attractive, professionally made draperies.

That's what customers can expect from Draperies by Jo, 5740 South Redwood Road, because all fabric items there are custom-made by owner Jo Folker, who has been in business for 33 years.Draperies by Jo is one of more than 300 businesses that will be displaying their wares at the 14th annual Home Improvement and Modern Living Show, sponsored by the Deseret News.

Ready-made draperies just don't have the flair of really well-done custom-made draperies, Folker said.

Although the store uses good quality products, Folker said, the professional touch in manufacturing and installation are what make the difference.

"A customer can choose between $5 a yard fabric and $100 a yard fabric, whatever is in their budgets. If it's made professionally, then it's going to work no matter how much it costs," she said.

Her son, Tony Reece, installs the draperies to make sure they hang and look just right in a customer's home. He also has shouldered responsibility for sales and promotion.

The store also carries hard window coverings, such as vertical wood blinds, pleated shades and shutters.

The Home Improvement and Modern Living Show will be held at the Salt Palace and will run from 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10; and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11.

Oct. 9 is senior citizens' day, with two admitted for the price of one. Oct. 11 is ladies' day, with two women admitted for the price of one.

Cost is $3 for adults, $1 for children aged 7-12. Children aged 6 and under are admitted free. Discount tickets can be purchased at 7-Eleven stores and participating businesses.
