THE ACLU IS A MAJOR FAN OF FILMMAKER VAN SANT

Filmmaker Gus Van Sant is being honored by the American Civil Liberties Union in Oregon, his home state.

Van Sant, who directed "Drugstore Cowboy" and "My Own Private Idaho," will be in Portland on Tuesday to receive the annual Freedom of Expression Award from the ACLU's state chapter."He has consistently addressed themes in his films which let us see inside the lives of individuals we don't often get a glimpse at," said Janet Arenz of the ACLU.
