Weber State University quarterback Jamie Martin and Eastern Washington University linebacker Joe Peterson have been selected as the Big Sky Conference offensive and defensive players of the week.
Martin, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior from Arroyo Grande, Calif., led Weber State to a 47-19 home win over Montana State, directing the Wildcat offense to 660 yards.Martin was 40-of-58 passing for 547 yards and five touchdowns. His 40 completions and 58 attempts were the second-highest single-game efforts in his career. The 547 passing yards was the third-best single-game effort in league history, and his 539 yards of total offense goes down as the fifth-best mark in Big Sky history.
Martin has become just the fourth player in Big Sky history to surpass10,000 career yards in total offense and the third to go over 10,000 yards in passing. He needs 340 more passing yards, 608 more yards of total offense and three more passing TDs to become the all-time Big Sky leader in those three categories.
Peterson, a 6-4, 250-pound senior from Kirkland, Wash., guided the Eastern Washington defense in its 27-21 upset victory at the University of Montana with 10 tackles, five solo.
