The Humane Society of Utah's new "cat house" at 4242 S. 300 West is scheduled for completion sometime during the first week of October, making 25,000 square feet available to homeless animals.

The $2 million facility will include a surgical facility and animal clinic in addition to more than 200 kennels, training grounds, grooming facilities, an adoption center and educational auditorium.Funding for the project was uncertain as its construction proceeded, but is being carried to completion with the help of a $300,000 donation from Union Pointe Construction Corp., the contractor on the project.

The center is located beneath an Interstate 15 billboard that has drawn motorists' attention to the project with such slogans as "With a little help this place could go to the dogs" and "Salt Lake could use a good cat house."
