LOTS OF PLACES CAN GIVE YOU A TWIRL IF YOU WANT TO TAKE DATE FOR A WHIRL

Whether it's a date, a girl's or a guy's night out or a family outing, kick up your heels, because there's a plethra of places for a foot-stompin', thumpin', bumpin' good time.

Country-western dancing is no longer just a thing for cowboys - swing dancing is popular for all. Girls are thrown in the air and swung around the dance floor to the latest country-western music. Some couples are so advanced they're just fun to watch.If you're among the not-so-experienced, you can take dancing lessons before the dance and then dance the night away at your own risk.

To learn the two-step or the fox trot, there are local hot spots that have live band music for the young at heart.

Or you can impress someone with your knowledge of the latest moves at local dance clubs where top 40, soul and modern music is played in different rooms, depending on your taste or mood.

Local dance spots include:

The Santaquin City Recreation Center, with country dancing every Friday night from 8:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. (the first hour is dance instruction). Admission is $3 for singles and $5 for couples.

The Utah National Guard Armory in Provo has country dancing Saturday nights from 8:30 p.m. to 12 a.m (the first hour is dance instruction). Admission is $3 for singles, $5 for couples.

The Palace Entertainment Center in Provo has country dancing on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Admission is $4 for singles, $6 for couples. Wednesday is ladies' night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., with soul, modern and top 40 music for ages 18 and older. Admission is $2 for girls and $4 for guys. Friday is high school night - ages 15 to 18, from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and Saturday is college night for ages 18 and older from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. General admission is $4. This club features a bar serving nonalcoholic drinks and an indoor video sports theater.

Ride a tram to the top and then dance under the stars at Bridal Veil Falls Eagle's Nest in Provo Canyon, which will offer country dancing on Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. (dance instruction is from 8 to 10:30 p.m.) Dance to top 40 music on Friday from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Admission is $4 before 9 p.m. and $5 after. Tickets are only sold before 12 a.m. But hurry, the tram and dancing at the top will only be open for one more weekend.

The newest dance club - Studio 7 in Orem - has soul, reggae, industrial, modern and top 40 music every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $4 before 10 p.m. and $5 after. This dance club features floor shows with local talent on selected nights.

Apollo Dance and Recreation Center in American Fork is open Fridays for couples and Saturdays for singles from 9 p.m to 11:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per couple on Fridays and $3 for singles on Saturdays. There's a live band that plays all types of music, and there's refreshments and floor shows with frequent appearances by Brigham Young University and Utah Valley Community College dance teams.
