Margaret Rose Nelson, 40, assistant U.S. attorney and former member of the Utah State Board of Education, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1992, in a Salt Lake hospital after a long illness.
Ms. Nelson was elected to the state school board in 1982 and re-elected in in 1984. She represented southwestern Utah County.An assistant U.S. attorney for the past six years, Ms. Nelson was previously a Utah County deputy attorney. She also had maintained a private law practice in Utah County.
She was active in civic, education, political and professional organizations. During her career, Ms. Nelson served as vice president of the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Education Commission of the States, Denver; the Utah Legal Services Board; the Utah Valley Community College Institutional Council and Foundation Board; and the Utah Code Title 53 Revision Commission of the Utah Legislature.
An active Republican, she was a delegate to county, state and national conventions.
A native of St. George, Ms. Nelson received a bachelor of arts degree and a law degree from Brig-ham Young University.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous ward and stake callings. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parleys 1st and 6th Ward, 2350 S. 2100 East. A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and at the ward from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
