Two Brigham Young University professors of law have been appointed to lead the Significant Legislation Committee of the American Bar Association's Section on Real Property, Probate and Trust Law.
David A. Thomas is chairman and James H. Backman is vice chairman of the committee. Both Thomas and Backman assumed the positions in July and will serve three-year terms with appointments renewable upon completion of the term.The bar association is divided into different legal sections such as divorce, family law and personal injury. The section on real property, probate and trust is the ABA's largest section with nearly 25,000 members.
The Significant Legislation Committee has an active membership of nearly 30 delegates with representatives from across the nation.
As committee chairman, Thomas will supervise examination of the current and ongoing legislation within all the states.
