A Salt Lake man paroled from prison was arrested Tuesday after a woman the man is accused of raping found a card bearing the man's name stuck to her body.
The woman, a Salt Lake County resident, told deputy sheriffs she had left her boyfriend's Salt Lake home about 12:15 a.m. to take a walk after the couple had an argument. She was sitting at a bus stop near 900 S. 300 East when a man stopped his truck and asked her if she wanted to go for coffee, needed a ride or wanted a cigarette. The woman told investigators she accepted the cigarette, and the man drove off, only to drive around the block, park across the street and approach her on foot. He asked her again if she wanted a ride, and again she declined. He then grabbed her arm and dragged her to his truck.
The woman said the man seemed friendly, so when he asked her if she wanted a ride home, she accepted, giving him an approximate address. But instead, he drove to an area near 500 W. 3700 South, where he pulled over and began molesting her.
The woman said she protested, but the man grabbed her throat and forced her to have sex with him. After a few minutes, he said, "This isn't right. I shouldn't do this. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I'll give you a ride home," the deputy's report says.
When she got home, she discovered a card under her clothes, and told investigators it must have gotten stuck to her during the assault. Deputies checked the Salt Lake address on the card and found a truck the woman said was the truck her attacker had been driving.
Further checks on the man, whose name was also on the card, revealed he is a parolee. Salt Lake police assisted the deputies in arresting the man.
