EXPERTS SAY QUAKES ARE MORE DEVASTATING IN THE EAST

An earthquake could strike the densely populated East Coast, according to some seismologists.

They are not basing conclusions on signs of seismological activity. Rather, they are re-examining the sparse history of Eastern earthquakes and seeing an unrecognized level of danger.Historical records show an earthquake of a given size typically devastates an area 100 times greater in the East than it does in the West, where the fault-ridden crust of the earth thins out the shock waves relatively quickly.
