TOOELE SPIKERS PICK UP ON THEIR WINNING WAYS

A year ago Tooele won the Region Six volleyball championship. Thursday afternoon, the Buffs started right where they left off, downing Judge Memorial in two games, 15-7, 15-4.

Karie Johnson, a senior outside hitter, led the way with eight kills and three service aces. Middle blocker Colleen Jacobs added three kills and two solo blocks, while outside hitter Darci Hayes had four kills and a pair of aces.Tooele, which placed third in 3A a year ago, is now 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the region, while Judge dropped to 0-1 in league play.

In other Region Six action:

Granite def. West

At Granite, the Farmers lost the first game, but won the next two to defeat West, 13-15, 15-12, 15-4. Susan Finau had 11 kills, four aces and three blocks for Granite, while Kelli Duncan contributed five assists and a pair of aces. West was led by Katherine Fife and Nicole Young. Granite is now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the league, while West fell to 0-8 and 0-1.

Bountiful def. Jordan

Bountiful's Amanda Walton served up seven straight points in the opening game to lead the Braves to a 15-2, 15-6 sweep of the Beetdiggers.
