At 2:55 a.m. on Aug. 29, a rose-colored Cadillac hit and killed Leo Yazzi as he was crossing the street at 650 E. 300 South. An anonymous person called Crime Stoppers after the incident was publicized in the media, according to court documents. That person led authorities to the car and to witnesses who said the suspect, Miguel A. Ariza, 20, told them he was driving the car at the time of the accident.
Ariza was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an injury accident, a Class A misdemeanor. Court documents say the man drove away without providing his identity to Samaritans or law enforcement officers. He also failed to render help to Yazzi.
