Daniel Pu, right, places several tomatoes into a bag for a boy at the Utahns Against Hunger site, 840 W. 100 South, at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. More than 250,000 Utahns have slipped below the federal poverty line, and the 11th Share the Harvest gives local gardeners the opportunity to share their extra produce with residents in need. Last year the group distributed more than 4,500 food packages to Utah families. Volunteers and staff will continue to distribute food packages and information on community resources for those in need at 12 sites throughout Utah, four in Salt Lake City, on Sundays throughout the month from 1 to 3 p.m. In the past year, emergency food pantries around the state - primary indicators of the existing need - have seen record numbers of clients. More than 17,000 emergency food packages are distributed each month in Utah. For questions about giving or receiving donations, call 328-2561 or 1-800-453-3663.
