LAYTON BICYCLIST CRITICAL AFTER ACCIDENT

A Layton bicyclist is in critical condition with head and internal injuries after being struck by a car late Tuesday night near the Freeport Center, according to Clearfield Police.

Bret Wideside, 24, was struck by a car while crossing 1700 South Street in Clearfield near the east edge of the Freeport Center about 11:30 p.m., police said.He was first taken to Humana Hospital Davis North in Layton, then airlifted to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, police reported.

Police said the driver of the car, Charles W. Flackman, 32, of Roy, slowed while one cyclist crossed the road in front of him but was unable to avoid striking Wideside, who was behind the first cyclist.
