A high school honor student in Grayson, Ky., confessed to shooting a teacher and a school janitor to death before surrendering quietly to police, but authorities say they don't have a motive.

"To our knowledge, there had been no confrontations between (the suspect) and the teacher and no prior threats," Becky Walker, coordinator of youth services, said of Monday's shooting at East Carter High School.Classes were canceled Tuesday at the school, where police said the youth briefly held a class hostage after the shoot-ings.

The victims were identified as English teacher Deanna Mc-David, 48, who had been with the school system for 17 years, and custodian Marvin Hicks, 51, a 12-year employee.

The 17-year-old youth faced charges of capital murder and kidnapping. His name was withheld.
