Dr. Robert E. Long, age 70, passed away on Friday, January 22, 1993 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born October 14, 1922 in Castle Gate, Utah to Dr. Edwin V. and Jessie Crawford Long. Married Evelyn Mertzweiler on April 17, 1949. She died March 27, 1992.Attended Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah and the University of Utah, member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Received his dental degree from Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. Internship and residency in oral and maxillo facial surgery at the City Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Stationed at Fort Ord, California from 1951-53 in the Department of Oral and Maxillo Facial Surgery. Private practice in Salt Lake City from 1950 to 1984. Consultant in oral surgery at the VA Hospital from 1952-62. He was a member of the staff of St. Mark's and Holy Cross Hospitals. Member of the American Dental Society and the Salt Lake District Dental Society. During his active practice he was a consultant in oral surgery to Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Medical Institute Review.
Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Betty Long; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Arthur Miyazaki; four grandchildren, Travis, Bryan and Justin Long and Arthur Miyazaki Jr.
Friends may meet the family on Monday, January 25, 1993 from 7-8 p.m. at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 1993, 11 a.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South. In lieu of flowers family suggests contributions to the charity of their choice.
