Devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, VerNile E. Maxfield, 81, passed away as a result of head injuries sustained in an accidental fall January 22, 1993.

Born September 18, 1911 in Vineyard, Utah to William Arlbert and Johanna Olsen Maxfield.Married Kathryne Waller December 2, 1945; later divorced. Married LaVerle Jorgensen February 2, 1971 in the St. George Temple. He had a great zest and enthusiasm for life. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in two different bishoprics and numerous priesthood and auxiliary callings. Retired in 1971 after many years with the Federal government in various management capacities, principally at the Dugway Proving Grounds and Deseret Test Center. He was a World War II Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerle; children, Kent V. Maxfield and wife Jennifer of Sandy; Mrs. William E. (Marsha) Kilgore II of Aberdeen, Wash.; Brian W. Maxfield and wife Jan of Sandy; James K. Thurman and wife Sharon of Salt Lake; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Margaret Carter of Salt Lake; an identical twin brother, LeGrande O. Maxfield and wife, Miriam, of Salt Lake. Preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Thurman, three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 26, 1993, 12 noon at the Grant 6th Ward, 1300 East 3487 South, Salt Lake City. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, and from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
