America is becoming a safer place to live, the annual report of the Coalition for Consumer Health & Safety says.

There were dramatic improvements in four key health and safety areas in recent years:- Motor vehicle deaths in 1992 declined to 39,500, the lowest highway death toll in 30 years.

- Cigarette smoking is declining in all age groups.

- Alcohol consumption is still falling.
