DIRECTIONS - Four miles south of Heber on highway 189. Reservoir is about 50 miles from Salt Lake City and about 15 miles from Provo through Provo Canyon.
DESCRIPTION - One of Utah's larger reservoirs with about 2,500 surface acres. Water fluctuates during year. Lots of sagebrush and oak brush around shoreline. Provo River enters and leaves the reservoir.FISH: rainbow, brown and cutthroat; largemouth, smallmouth; yellow perch, walleye.
WHAT WORKS - Tfor trout try jigging with small jugs ans spoons tipped with wax or meal worm. Salmon eggs and power bait also works well here. Smallmouth and largemouth are dormant in the winter, but will occasionally catch one. Use light-colored spoons for walleye. For perch use small ice flies tipped with perch or sucker meat.
DETAILS - Trout tend to be shallow, but can be anywhere from 5 to 50 feet of water. Typically in shallow when ice is thin, then move out deeper as ice thickens. Walleye are night feeders, to best fishing when sun goes down. Fish for perch right off the bottom. Some of the best fishing around island, Rainbow Bay, Wallsburg Bay off state marina and along west side of reservoir. Access west side from dam or by walking across from eastern shoreline.
NOTES - Typically pull some nice fish from reservoir in the winter - 16 to 18 inches. This is a very accessible area to fish in the winter. Roads along eastern shore are kept clear. The fact that town of Heber is close by makes it very convenient. Provo River also offers good fishing and some trophy fishing.
