Delta Air Lines will offer its first nonstop flights between the United States and Greece as part of an expansion of its trans-Atlantic service, the carrier said.
The new service is available for sale now, but flights won't begin until later in the year.Beginning May 20, Delta will offer seasonal nonstop service from Kennedy International Airport in New York to Athens, Greece. The new flights will complement Delta's year-round service to Athens from Frankfurt, Germany.
On May 19, Delta will begin seasonal nonstop service between Atlanta and Nice, in the south of France. Delta now offers year-round service to Nice from Kennedy.
On June 1, Delta will begin daily nonstop service between Atlanta and Brussels, Belgium, and between Cincinnati and Munich, Germany.
Nonstop service between Cincinnati and Zurich, Switzerland, will be offered six days a week beginning June 1.
The airline also said it plans to begin this spring offering more seats on its flights from Frankfurt to Los Angeles and to Cincinnati.
Delta, which in 1991 acquired many of European routes of Pan American World Airways, offers more nonstop flights across the Atlantic than any other airline.
The airline, which has been losing money at a record pace, said the new flights are part of a strategy to reallocate its aircraft resources in a more profitable manner.
