A man who calls himself a "transsexual in transition" was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison for strangling his wife.
A Superior Court jury in New Bedford, Mass., deliberated about four hours before finding Robert J. Kosilek guilty Monday. He was given a mandatory life term without parole.Kosilek, 43, wears women's clothing, has grown his hair and fingernails long and calls himself Michelle. His attorney refers to Kosilek as "she."
The former New Bedford cab driver was charged with strangling his 36-year-old wife, Cheryl, and leaving her body in the parking lot of a shopping mall in North Attleboro in 1990.
Defense attorney Joan McDonough said Kosilek strangled his wife because she came at him with a knife during an argument.
