Iron County Attorney Scott Burns said he will not accept a job with the state Department of Corrections after all.
Burns said he changed his mind because he was not told about a major reorganization until after he had accepted the job of corrections deputy director on Jan. 13. He was scheduled to start work on Feb. 1.The reorganization would split the deputy director position to create co-deputy directors, Burns said he was told by Corrections Executive Director Lane McCotter.
"I deeply regret the chain of events that has led to this decision, but I cannot accept the position as modified," Burns said. "I have the utmost respect for Director McCotter and the Department of Corrections and intend to continue the excellent working relationship we have established over the years."
Burns said in his release he intends to continue serving as Iron County attorney, an elected position. A Republican, he was narrowly defeated in the race for attorney general last November by Democrat Jan Graham.
