Granite School Superintendent Loren G. Burton has been named one of the country's 100 most outstanding education administrators by The Executive Editor, a respected education pub-li-ca-tion.
He is listed in The Executive Ed-u-ca-tor 100, an education listing similar to the blue-ribbon citations of business and industry.Burton said he was honored but that the recognition actually notes the success of his successful Gran-ite team.
"When an honor of this nature comes, it comes not to me as an administrator, but to my team. I appreciate all of them, particularly a supportive board of education. That's what shines through in a case like this. It's the result of good work."
Burton, 53, has headed Utah's largest school district since January 1988.
In a brief statement to the magazine, Burton said, "A good superintendent must have a sense for politics and, at the same time, be a people person. You've got to be creative and flexible - like a cat with nine lives."
The magazine noted particular accomplishments, including Granite's year-round schools, school-based decisionmaking and use of classroom technology.
