Roy Walters Swenson, age 78, of Orem, died December 29, 1992 of congestive heart failure at the home of his daughter, Audrey Sharleen Van Luik in Las Vegas.
He was born in Provo, Utah on July 1, 1914, a son of Nels and Mabel Walters Swenson. He married Velda Sarantinos on October 4, 1934 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized on April 13, 1934, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died June 12, 1991.Roy spent forty years working for the Union Pacific Railroad in Southern California.
He is best known for his work as an area supervisor for the Latter-day Saint Church's athletic program in Southern California. He has resided in Orem, Utah, the last twelve years, during which time he and his late wife served as workers in the Provo Temple.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Audrey Sharleen Van Luik of Las Vegas, Nevada. Four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; Michael Jay Van Luik and his daughter Whitney Leigh of Orem, Utah; Tahja Renae Conley and her children Jared Scott, Jordan Abraham and Alexis Nicole of Richland, Washington; Rachel Ann and Sara Megan of Las Vegas, Nev.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 4, 1993 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cascade 4th Ward Chapel, 1051 East 200 North, Orem. Friends may call Sunday, January 3, 1993, 7-9 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St., Orem, and on Monday, 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
