A citizens group that opposes the new landfill site in White's Valley west of Tremonton invited Box Elder County commissioners to a meeting recently to hear their concerns.
But the group instead "grilled" the commission on the site, said Commissioner Allen Jensen. The group fears use of the the site, believing it may pose a high risk to water, especially in the Bothwell Pocket.
While acknowledging that the group raised some valid issues that must be examined, commissioners said no real public hearings can be held until data become available from several tests being conducted at the site.
Tests are also being conducted on a 100-square-mile area said to have been flooded by a severe storm in 1962. The tests are to determine if floodwaters came from areas other than White's Valley.
