Fergie, the duchess of York and estranged wife of Britain's Prince Andrew, has joined an expedition in Nepal to show her support for seven disabled climbers attempting to a Himalayan peak.

The former Sarah Ferguson and long-time friend Alison Lobel will scale the 19,344-foot Palder Peak next to Mount Everest with the aid of three British climbers and Ang Phurba Sherpa, a veteran of Everest.The duchess said she is attempting the eight-day climb to help raise money for charity and heighten awareness about the ability of the disabled to live independently.
