The Salt Lake County commissioners say they want the Utah Transit Authority to seek clear direction from its board before continuing work on the light-rail proposal.
A letter was approved at Wednesday's Salt Lake County Commission meeting saying that the commissioners have met the Salt Lake County appointees to the UTA board and want the full UTA board to vote on continued work on light rail."Any continued light-rail planning, acquisition of land or seeking of federal funds should be contingent upon the outcome of this vote. The vote would occur following an independent study and thorough discussion by the board of the pros and cons of light rail and alternatives," the letter reads.
Jim Bradley, chairman of the commission, said that an independent consultant should be hired to review light-rail work and staff recommendations.
