Duran Duran put its U.S. tour on hold indefinitely Friday because lead singer Simon LeBon has serious throat trouble.

His doctors reported he "has a torn vocal cord and his throat is in an ulcerated condition."The damage is not permanent, but LeBon has been put on antibiotics and told to rest for at least a few weeks.

"We are devastated that we're unable to play for now," keyboardist Nick Rhodes said. "It came as a great shock to us that Simon had torn a vocal cord. The shows we've done so far on the tour has all been a great success. However, we're left with no option but to postpone the shows because of the possibility of jeopardizing Simon's voice permanently before it has the chance to heal."
