In reference to President Clinton's health plan, I agree something needs to be done, but his is not the way. I have few answers but many questions.
Why should the nonparticipant pay for health problems of the smoker, alcohol drinker, drug abuser, non-helmeted motorcyclist, non-seat belt wearer, sexually promiscuous, overweight, non-vaccinated patient?Even harder questions are those of heredity. Those who do not have diabetes, high blood pressure, AIDS, myopia, etc., may have a difficult time wanting to pay for those who choose to have children who most likely will have those same traits.
Should those who choose to have 10 children pay the same premium as those who are not able to have any? Why should an attorney make more than that physician he is suing? Will all the federal government employees (including the president and Congress) receive the exact health care they want to inflict on us?
Lines are going to have to be drawn (rationing). Do we want the best, as physicians in the future, or will "salaried employees" of the government do?
I understand the principle of "pool," as it applies to insurance, and I understand how other countries have so-called full health coverage, but that concept will simply not work here.
