A second self-proclaimed white supremacist has been bound over in 2nd District Court on riot charges stemming from a July 1 incident at a Layton apartment complex.
Jason Schmitt, 19, Salt Lake City, waived his preliminary hearing on the third-degree felony charge Thursday in 2nd Circuit Court.Schmitt, along with Jacques A. Wright, 20, Layton, and Jerry L. Jacobs, 19, Salt Lake City, are charged with threatening several black tenants of the complex. Wright waived his preliminary hearing Monday in circuit court and has also been bound over to district court.
Jacobs was given a two-week delay on his preliminary hearing to hire an attorney.
The three, along with one other adult and four juveniles, were arrested by Layton Police after a confrontation at the complex. During the arrest, police confiscated five rifles, clubs, knives and other weapons.
Jacobs told police he is founder and leader of a group called "Skinheads for White Independence." Schmitt and Wright also told police they are skinheads, according to investigators.
Schmitt and Wright are scheduled for arraignment in district court on Dec. 7. The riot charge is a third-degree felony, carrying a prison term of zero to five years.
