A complaint by a repairman led police to discover a 16-month-old infant left alone with a dog Wednesday morning.
About 9:15 a.m., the man was repairing a door and window of a house between 100 and 200 West on Lucy Avenue (1200 South) when he heard a child crying inside, a Salt Lake police report stated. When the man looked inside, he saw the unattended baby and a large dog, said the report. As the man tried to reach the baby, a neighbor stopped and took the baby, who was completely wet, to a nearby house.
The neighbor told responding officers she gave the mother a ride down the street to another house and asked where the baby was. When the mother said the baby was at home asleep, the neighbor went to the house to check on the child, according to the report.
When police tried to contact the mother at the other house, no one answered the door.
