Jasmine Romney Edmunds, age 87, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Thursday, November 18, 1993, following a brief illness.
She was born September 7, 1906 to George S. and Artemesia Redd Romney in Colonia Juarez, Mexico, where she resided until age 5, when the family was driven from Mexico by Pancho Villa. The remainder of her youth was spent in Rexburg, Idaho, where she graduated from Ricks College.Following her graduation from the University of Utah, majoring in English, Speech and Drama, she returned to Rexburg to teach high school. The family moved to Chicago with her father, who was called to be President of the Northern States Mission, where she met and married John K. Edmunds in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 31, 1934.
John and Jasmine resided in Chicago until 1969 where they reared their two daughters and where she beautifully supported her husband's 27-year service in the Chicago Stake presidency. She served as Young Women's President plus many Relief Society callings, including Stake Relief Society President. Called to preside over the California Mission, they moved to Santa Monica, California, and upon completion of that mission they were subsequently called to serve as President and Matron of the Salt Lake City Temple from 1972-77, where they resided until 1984. Her final years were spent in Provo, Utah.
Refinement was her hallmark in everything she did: homemaker, hostess, cook, decorator. She was a lover of beauty, much of which were her own creations of poetry, decoration, embroidery and hand work. She was cheerful to the end and imbued with the Romney spirit of determination. Maintaining concern for others, she was gracious and deeply appreciative of the kindnesses shown to her by so many.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Niles W. Herrod (Janet) and Mrs. Ralph L. Gale (Janine), and sister, Mrs. Merlyn Wolters; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters, Tessa, Marion G., Lurlene, Antone, Arta, Leona, Maurine, and Jennie.
