Utahns to get papal honors for outstanding service

Three prominent Utahns associated with restoration of the Cathedral of the Madeleine will be installed in orders of papal knighthood on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral. The honors received from Pope John Paul II were announced in July.

Irene Sweeney will become a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Richard J. Howa and M. Ray Kingston will become Knights of the Order of Saint Sylvester. The honors are for outstanding service to church and society and their membership depends directly on the pope. Calvary Chapel weekend

Calvary Chapel, 4700 S. 2590 West, will host a "Prophecy Update Weekend," featuring guest speaker Chuck Missler today and Sunday, Nov. 21, at the following times:

- Today at 8 a.m., men's breakfast; lecture at 6:30 p.m.

- Sunday, Nov. 21, lectures at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Mass for St. Thomas More

The Most Rev. William Weigand will be the principal celebrant at dedication Mass on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. for the newly completed St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 E. Creek Road. The parish was established in 1981, and its multipurpose center was dedicated in 1984, with the rectory completed in 1987. The new church completes the parish facilities. Tours of the church will be conducted after the dedication ceremonies.

Indonesia clergy in S.L.

Father Daniel Byantoro, founder of the Greek Orthodox Church in Indonesia, will visit the local Greek Orthodox parish this weekend. He will celebrate Great Vespers tonight at 6 at Holy Trinity Cathedral, 279 S. 300 West. He will also celebrate Divine Liturgy at Prophet Elias Church, 5335 Highland Drive, on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. Father Byantoro's visit is part of a nationwide mission tour to inform U.S. members of the work going on in Indonesia and to raise funds for construction of another church in that country. Since the church was established there in 1987, three parishes have been built.

Miracle Rock Church, 131 N. 900 West, will host three nights of revival preaching by pastor Ralph Hart of Liberty Temple Church in Detroit, Mich., Nov. 21-23, at 7 p.m. Programs include preaching, singing, fellowship and manifestation of gifts of the spirit. Members and former members of the Douglas LDS Ward will celebrate the congregation's golden anniversary tonight at 6 at the wardhouse, 721 S. 1200 East. The LDS Church organized the ward on Nov. 20, 1943, but World War II imposed stringent restrictions on building materials, leaving the ward without a building of its own to meet in for nearly a decade. A program and refreshments are planned. No nursery will be provided.
