The Cache County School District board has agreed to accept the resignation of a teacher charged with assaulting a student.
Paul Parker, a 30-year veteran teacher at South Cache Middle School, was charged with misdemeanor assault after allegedly lifting a 13-year-old boy by his ears when the student opened a window against the teacher's orders. The charges were filed last week against Parker following an investigation by the Cache County sheriff's office.
Meanwhile, the Cache Education Association entered into negotiations with the district over Parker's case.
As a result of the negotiation, the board will accept the teacher's resignation and he will be entitled to whatever benefits the district policies would allow a teacher with his tenure to have following a resignation, said district Superintendent Larry Jensen.
Jensen said he did not know specifically what those benefits would be.
The Cache Education Association accepts the decision, CEA President Curt Jenkins said.
